More and more people are seeking Chiropractic care because they want a natural approach to their healthcare. We have been promoting those benefits for years with our patients and in the community. Before treatment begins we start with an analysis of your current physical condition. Our office staff stands ready to answer any questions you may have about our services and your health. Here are some of the common questions our patients ask us.
How does Chiropractic work?
Chiropractic is a system of healthcare that uses the body’s natural ability to heal if allowed to be free of interference. Through stress, improper body mechanics and other factors our body loses it normal joint function. This puts stress on the muscles, ligaments and nerves of the spine. We look at your body’s alignment and function and restore it through a series of Chiropractic adjustments.
What does a Chiropractor do?
Chiropractors restore the body’s normal function. We perform an orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic evaluation on all patients. This gives us information on the cause of your structural and functional problem. Then we make a recommendation on the most effective treatment for your condition.
What can I expect from my first appointment?
We at Gentner Chiropractic Center will do our best to find and detect the cause of your problem. Typical new patient visits include examination (orthopedic, neurological, and chiropractic) and x-rays if necessary.
How long will it take?
New patient visits generally take longer for us to do our complete evaluation. Generally we tell patients to allow 2 hours for this visit. Once the cause of your problem has been detected and treatment begins, those appointments generally take 30 minutes in duration.
Can I exercise before and after treatment?
Exercise is a great component to your health. We encourage all our patients to exercise, however not all patients can exercise during treatment. Our Doctors will make specific recommendations for each patient as to the right amount and timing of exercise programs.
Does spinal manipulation or adjustments hurt?
Chiropractic spinal manipulation or adjustment is a safe and effective spine pain treatment. It reduces pain; improve joint mobility and nerve function. Chiropractic adjustments rarely cause discomfort. However, patients may sometimes experience mild soreness similar to that felt after exercise.
What are some of the causes of spinal pain and how prevalent is this in the general population?
- One-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year.
- Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work. In fact, back pain is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor’s office, outnumbered only by upper-respiratory infections.
- Car Accidents, stress, poor diet, improper lifting, repetitive motions poor sleeping positions can cause the spinal bones to lose their normal position and function.
- Experts estimate that as many as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some time in our lives.Back pain is a warning sign that there is an underlying problem responsible for a symptom that will likely not go away. We are committed to finding the cause of the problem.
What conditions do chiropractors treat?
Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, back pain, neck pain, and headaches. We also treat pain in the joints of the arms, legs, shoulders, wrists, and feet.
Do children or teenagers need chiropractic care?
With today’s activities and lifestyles children and especially teenagers put a lot of stress on their bodies. They bunch up when sleeping, carry heavy backpacks to school, skateboard and roller-blade. All these actions have the potential to put the spine out of alignment. We highly recommend bringing in your child for an evaluation so you can keep them on a healthy path.
Do I have a pinched nerve?
While most patients think that they are seeing their Chiropractor for a pinched nerve, the truth is that pinched nerves are only a small portion of the conditions treated. More commonly, nerves are stretched and irritated caused by malfunctioning spinal joints. Spinal Adjustments relieve this nerve interference and allow normal joint mobility.
Do I have a slipped disc?
The discs in the spine act as shock absorbers for us. Discs cannot “slip”, they can over time become thin and worn, have tears, bulges and become herniated.
